Langrick, Leonard Stanley

BORN HULL 1896. FIFTH SON OF LEONARD LANGRICK (1861-1914) AND ELIZABETH BRANTON (1862-1959), OF 43 ROSE STREET,  7 CORNWALL GARDENS, BRUNSWICK AVENUE, HULL AND 56 SPRING BANK, HULL, (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). ONE OF NINE CHILDREN. HE WORKED AS A LABOURER, LIVING AT 59 FOUNTAIN ROAD, HULL.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 16/11/1914, AGED 19. HE JOINED THE 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT – THE “HULL SPORTSMEN” PALS BATTALION. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT 8 INCHES TALL, 35 INCH CHEST, 139 LBS WEIGHT, ‘GOOD’ PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT, AND ‘GOOD’ CHARACTER. TRAINED AT BEVERLEY AND RIPON, IN YORKSHIRE. LEFT DEVON PORT, FOR PORT SAID, ON 16/12/1915. SERVED IN EGYPT AND ARRIVED IN FRANCE ON 08/03/1916. PROMOTED TO SERGEANT, ON 11/09/1916. TOOK PART IN THE ATTACK ON THE VILLAGE OF SERRE. HE DIED OF WOUNDS IN A GERMAN TRENCH ON THE 14/11/1916.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, WHO MOVED TO 56 SPRING BANK, HULL. MOTHER HAD ALREADY LOST A BROTHER, A SON AND SON IN LAW, DURING THE WAR. SHE HAD THREE OTHER SONS SERVING, ONE OF WHICH WAS WOUNDED.
