BORN HOWDEN, 1897. ONLY SON OF ROBERT JOHN LATHAM (1849-1914) AND KATE AUGUSTA ELIZABETH HACKETT (1868-1938), OF 17, NORTHGATE,  COTTINGHAM. HIS FATHER WAS A RETIRED CHEMIST AND DRUG STORE SHOPKEEPER. HIS MOTHER WAS BORN IN KENTISH TOWN, LONDON. HE HAD ONE ELDER SISTER, MAUD ETHEL LATHAM (1879-1966).

HE WAS EDUCATED AT HULL GRAMMAR SCHOOL. HE WORKED AS A CLERK AND SECRETARY FOR THE FRENCH CONSUL. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 5.5 INCHES TALL, 116 LBS WEIGHT, 32-34.5 INCH CHEST, MOLE ON LEFT SHOULDER, CHURCH OF ENGLAND RELIGION.

HE ENLISTED IN BEVERLEY. ON 03/12/1915. CALLED UP ON 24/06/1916. FORMERLY PRIVATE, 25989, IN THE EYR, BEFORE TRANSFERING TO THE 4TH DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY. HE DIED OF A HEART CONDITION, AT SEAHAM HARBOUR, DURHAM, ON 24/11/1916, AGED 19.
