BORN HULL 1879. ONLY SON OF HENRY LAYCOCK AND SARAH JANE BODEN (1850-1922), OF MANOR HOUSE FARM, GANSTEAD, HULL AND SPROATLEY, YORKSHIRE. BROTHER TO ELLEN, LUCY AND ADA. A FARM COW MAN AND FORMER SOLDIER. HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS RIFLEMAN, 2185, KING’S ROYAL RIFLE CORPS. ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 15/09/1914. DIED OF WOUNDS, AT YPRES, ON 01/11/1914, AGED 35. COMMEMORATED ON THE MENIN GATE MEMORIAL, YPRES. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, HENRY.

HIS NAME IS LISTED ON THE SPROATLEY VILLAGE MEMORIAL ONE OF 61 MEN WHO SERVED, 13 OF WHICH DIED IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-18.
