Littlehales, Frank Gilbert

Hull Pals Memorial Post. PRIVATE FRANK GILBERT LITTLEHALES 22007. Born 15th October 1890, Frank was the third of five children to Samuel and Sarah Littlehales of 1 Nowell Walk, Leeds. A Litho Printer by trade he moved to Hull where he settled at 38 Blundell Street. He enlisted at City Hall in December 1915 and was called-up the following February arriving in France with the 8th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment on 28th November 1916. His war record is littered with spells out of the line, first with trench feet, then influenza, impetigo, ecthyma….all of which limited his time in the front line. Frank was killed in action on 8th September 1918 near Soyer Farm and his body never recovered. His name is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial; he was 27 years old.
