Lockham, James Ernest

BORN HULL 1891. (AKA AS JOHN LOCKHAM). THIRD SON OF HARRY SADLER LOCKHAM & JANE SMITH, AT 15 VINE TERRACE, BARNSLEY STREET, HULL. ONE OF SEVEN CHILDREN. EMPLOYED AS A GAS FITTER’S LABOURER. HE JOINED RECKITTS CANNISTER WORKS, ON 01/04/1916.

ENLISTED HULL. SERVED WITHTHE 7TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION ON 23/04/1917. COMMEMORATED ON THE ARRAS MEMORIAL.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 10/05/1917. *

HIS BROTHER, SERGEANT, ALFRED LOCKHAM, 12011, 10TH YORKSHIRE HUSSARS, HAD BEEN KILLED ON THE SOMME A YEAR BEFORE, ON 24/04/1916, AGED 21. BOTH WERE UNMARRIED AND THEIR ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO THEIR MOTHER JANE. BOTH BROTHERS ARE LISTED ON THE BARNSLEY STREET MEMORIAL. JAMES IS ALSO COMMEMORATED ON THE ARRAS MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING. THEIR OLDER BROTHERS HARRY AND THOMAS LOCKHAM SURVIVED THE WAR.
