Lockton, Charles Arthur

BORN NOTTINGHAM, 1880. SON OF TOM WALKER LOCKTON (1862-1937) AND FRANCES ELIZABETH THEAKER (1863-1907). A COAL TRIMMER. HE MARRIED CLARA SMITH, AT THE GRIMSBY REGISTRY OFFICE, ON 18/04/1911. THEY LIVED AT 14, WILLIAM STREET, HULL, WITH THEIR SON, CHARLES FREDERICK LOCTON AND 19, VILLA PLACE, HESSLE ROAD, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).

HE ENLISTED IN THE 17TH NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS (THE RAILWAY PALS, FORMED IN HULL, ON 15/09/1914.) DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT 8.5 INCHES TALL, 135 LBS WEIGHT, 37 INCH CHEST, BLUE EYES, BROWN HAIR AND ‘RUDDY’ COMPLEXION. HE SERVED IN FRANCE FROM 20/11/1915. BECAME MENTALLY UNFIT 15/05/1917 AND RETURNED TO ENGLAND. HE WAS DISCHARGED FROM THE ARMY ON 24/04/1918, HAVING SERVED 3 YEARS AND 222 DAYS. HIS MILITARY CHARACTER WAS DESCRIBED AS “VERY GOOD”. HE WAS DECLARED INSANE, SENT TO THE COUNTY ASYLUM, SLEAFORD & DIED ON 13/11/1918, AGED 38.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, CLARA. AT 19 VILLA PLACE, HESSLE ROAD, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS)

HIS DEATH IS NOT RECORDED IN CWGC RECORDS. HOWEVER, HIS NAME IS LISTED ON HULL’S WALKER STREET MEMORIAL.
