BORN CASTLEFORD, YORKS 15/03/1897. SON OF JOSEPH LONGFELLOW & SARAH ELLEN LUMB, OF 4, TEMPERANCE BUILDINGS, SWANN STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). SISTERS ANNIE AND EMILY AND BROTHER, GEORGE LONGFELLOW.

EDUCATED AT LINCOLN STREET COUNCIL SCHOOL, HULL. A FORMER BLUNDELL’S PAINT WORKER.

ENLISTED IN THE ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY, OCTOBER 1914. FORMERLY, 214, EAST RIDING, R.G.A.

SERVED IN THE ANTI AIRCRAFT UNIT FROM 06/02/1915 TO 24/06/1917. POSTED TO FRANCE ON THE 25/06/1917. WOUNDED AT BULLECOURT, ON 21/08/1918. DIED OF WOUNDS IN THE KITCHENER MILITARY HOSPITAL, BRIGHTON, ON 2/09/1918. BURIED IN HULL WESTERN CEMETERY.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 09/09/1918 AND THE DE RUVIGNEY ROLL OF HONOUR. HIS DEATH WAS RECORDED IN THE CWGC AS 23, BUT HE WAS REALLY AGED 21. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS SISTER, ANNIE BIRD, AT 18 BROMLEY STREET, HULL.
