BORN HULL 23/02/1889. SON OF JOSPEH SAMUEL LONGWORTH (1867-1941) AND ANN DEWAR (1869-1952), OF 4 MELTON TERRACE, LIME STREET, HULL. GRAND PARENTS EDWIN & ELIZABETH MARSHALL, of 45 SYKES STREET, HULL. HE HAD TWO BROTHERS AND THREE SISTERS.

BEFORE THE WAR HE WORKED FOR EAGLE OIL MILLS, CLEVELAND STREET, HULL. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 9 INCHES TALL, 37-39 INCH CHEST, 137 LBS WEIGHT.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 10/12/1915. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 16/06/1916. SERVED AS A LANCE CORPORAL, IN THE MACHINE GUN CORPS. HE WAS KILLED IN FRANCE ON 30TH OCTOVBER 1917, AGED 28

HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE ST MARKS STREET ROLL OF HONOUR WITH BROTHER HENRY, RFA WHO WAS KILLED IN ACTION ON 2ND AUGUST 1917.

JOSEPH LONGWORTH’S DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 19TH NOVEMBER 1917, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *

HIS BROTHER, GUNNER, HENRY ALFRED (HARRY) LONGWORTH, 99669, WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 02/08/1917, AGED 29.
