HE MARRIED CLARA ELLERINGTON (1889-1957), AT ST PAULS CHURCH, HULL, ON 18/05/1918. HIS WIFE MRS CLARA LYDON LIVED AT 8 ALICE PLACE, REFORM STREET, AND THIS CWGC ADDRESS. THEY HAD THREE CHILDREN.
HE ENLISTED AT HULL, ON 23/11/1914, AGED 27 YEARS AND 2 MONTHS. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT 3.5 INCHES TALL, 136 LBS WEIGHT, 36 INCH CHEST, TATTOO ON RIGHT FOREARM. TRAINED AT BEVERLEY, RIPON AND WITHERNSEA. HE WAS AWARDED THE MILITARY MEDAL (MM) FOR BRAVERY ON 15/071916. (LONDON GAZZETTE 17/12/1917). RETURNED TO UNIT IN FRANCE ON 22/12/1916. TRANSFERRED TO THE 6TH EAST YORKSHIRE PIONEERS. PROMOTED TO SERGEANT ON 08/12/1917. HE WAS KILLED ION 13/03/1918, AGED 30. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 3 YEARS AND 111 DAYS.
