Maddock, Henry

BORN DUDLEY, WORCESTER, 1881. SON OF JOHN MADDOCK. HE ENLISTED IN PONTEFREACT. SERVED AS A SERGEANT IN THE 3RD KING’SOWN YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY. HE DIED SUDDENLY, AT HOME, AT 138 THORESBY STREET. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 16TH NOVEMBER 1915. HE HAD COMPLAINED OF A PAIN IN HIS HEART THE PREVIOUS DAY AND DIED BEFORE THE ARRIVAL OF A DOCTOR. HE WAS 34 YEARS OLD AND PREVIOUSLY REPORTED TO HAVE ENJOYED GOOD HEALTH. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW CATHERINE AT THIS ADDRESS. HE IS BURIED AT DUDLEY BOROUGH CEMETERY, WORCESTER. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “IN PROUD MEMORY OF A LOVING HUSBAND AND FATHER THE STRIFE IS O’ER THE BATTLE WON”.
