BORN HULL 1886. SON OF JANE JOYCE, OF 13 BURLEIGH STREET, HULL. HE HAD TWO ELDER BROTHERS AND ONE ELDER, SISTER, LUCY PENNINGTON, WHO LIVED AT 104, BALFOUR STREET, HULL
HE MARRIED AT HULL, ON 24/12/1908. HIS WDOW ADA LOUISE MAJOR AND FOUR CHILDREN AT 4, CARRINGTON AVENUE, DE LA POLE AVENUE, HULL (ARMY ADDRESS), & 1, SUNBEAM TERRACE, BURLEIGH STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). BEFORE THE WAR WORKED AS A LOCOMOTIVE FIREMAN, FOR THE HULL & BARNSLEY RAILWAY LINE. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 4 INCHES TALL, 152 LBS WEIGHT, 39-41 INCH CHEST.
HE ENLISTED AT HULL, ON 23/11/1914, AGED 28. STRAINED AT BEVERLEY AND RIPON. SERVED WITH THE HULL PALS( 13TH EYR), IN EGYPT AND FRANCE. HE WAS ACCIDENTALLY KILLED IN ACTION, ON 14/10/1916, AGED 30. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 1 YEAR AND 144 DAYS.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 10TH MAY 1916.
