BORN HULL 31/05/1882. ELDEST SON OF ELIZA GAZEY (1855-1945) & THE LATE ALFRED MANSLOW (1855-1907), LIVING AT 12, DE GREY TERRACE, ANLABY ROAD, HULL (WAR PENSION & NAVAL ADDRESS). ONE OF SEVEN CHILDREN. HE HAD FIVE SISTERS. HIS MOTHER WAS A DRAPERY AGENT (1911 CENSUS).

SERVED IN THE ROYAL NAVAL RESERVE. LOST ON THE TRAWLER “SARAH ALICE”, AGED 34. HIS SHIP WAS SUNK BY SUBMARINE OFF FAIR ISLAND. HIS BODY WAS NOT RECOVERED FROM THE SEA. COMMEMORATED ON PLYMOUTH NAVAL MEMORIAL.

On September 26th, 1916, the British navy yacht HMY Conqueror II was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-52 (Hans Walther), northwest of Fair Isle. 17 persons were killed. Conqueror was assisting HMS Sarah Alice, who was torpedoed by U-52 as well, though the torpedo was aimed at HMY Conqueror II.
