BORN HULL 1899. LIVED BRIXTON HILL, LONDON. ELDEST CHILD OF JACOB MARKS (1877-1937) & LEAH WILLIAMS (1879-1956), OF 49, COLONIAL STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS), 14 WALKER STREET, HULL (FATHER’S ARMY ADDRESS) AND 23, CLIFTON TERRACE, DAY STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). SON OF A CABINET MAKER. HIS FATHER WAS FROM RUSSIA AND NATURALISED BRITISH. HIS MOTHER WAS FROM HULL. HE HAD THREE BROTHERS AND FOUR SISTERS.

HE ENLISTED IN LONDON. SERVED AS A RIFLEMAN, WITH THE 1/6TH CITY OF LONDON REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 09/02/1916, AGED 17. COMMEMORATED ON THE LOOS MEMORIAL, FRANCE.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, LEAH AND SISTER, DORIS HENSCHEL

HIS FATHER ENLISTED AT HULL ON 13/11/1916. SERVED WITH THE 2ND LEICESTER REGIMENT. TRANSFERRED TO THE ROYAL ENGINEERS (SKILLED CARPENTER). HE SERVED AS A SAPPER ON THE MILITARY RAILWAYS, IN INDIA.
