Marsden, Henry Walter

BORN NORTHALLERTON, 1874. SON OF HARRIET RHODA & JOSEPH MARSDEN, 56 PAISLEY STREET. A FISHERMAN AND DECK HAND. UNMARRIED AND LIVED WITH HIS WIDOWED MOTHER AT THIS ADDRESS. LOST AT SEA ON THE STEAM TRAWLER ‘HALCYON’. PRESUMED DROWNED, AGED 43. COMMEMORATED ON THE MERCHANT MARINE MEMORIAL, TOWER HILL, LONDON.
The steam Trawler, Halcyon, was built by Cochrane & Cooper, Ltd., Beverley in 1898 and owned at the time of her loss by J. Leyman Jr. was a British trawler of 190 tons.
On February 19th, 1917, Halcyon was sunk by a mine from the German submarine U-71 (Hugo Schmidt), off Butt of Lewis. 11 persons were lost.
