BORN HULL 1897. LIVED YORK. ENLISTED SCARBOROUGH. SON OF WILLIAM & ROSALIND MARSHALL, OF MATHEW STREET, HULL & THEN 45 MORGATE, ACOMB ROAD, YORK. RONALD STUDIED AT THE BOULEVARD SECONDARY SCHOOL. HE WAS AN OUTSTANDING SCHOLAR, WINNING FOUR SCHOLARSHIPS. HE MOVED TO YORK IN 1912 TO STUDY AT ARCHBISHOP HOLGATE SCHOOL AND WAS AWARDED A DISTINCTION IN LATIN. HE RECEIVED FURTHER PAID SCHOLARSHIPS AND WAS DUE TO ATTEND CAMBRIDGE IN OCTOBER. HE SUSPENDED HIS ACADEMIC CAREER TO ENLIST IN JULY 1915. SERVED WITH THE ROYAL ARMY SERVICE CORPS. HE SAILED TO THE MEDITERRANEAN ON 4TH SEPTEMBER 1915, AND DIED OF WOUNDS RECEIVED, AGED 19. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH ON 3RD FEBRUARY 1916. *
IT WAS REPORTED THAT “HE WAS A GOOD MAN, OF STRONG CHARACTER AND CONSIDERABLE NATURAL GIFTS. IF HE HAD BEEN SPARED, HE WOULD HAVE GONE FAR.”

HE IS BURIED AT PORTIANOS MILITARY CEMETERY, GREECE.
