Martin, James William

Born Hull, 1881. He married Kate Lindo, in Hull in 1908. Husband of Kate Martin, of 14, Edward Street, Withernsea, Near Hull (Army address) and 15, John’s Terrace, Warmsley Street, Hull (War Pension address). They had five children, James Leslie, Frederick Alfred, George, Kate and Elizabeth.

A professional Soldier. Described as 5 foot, 5.5 inches tall, blue eyes, light brown hair, tattoos on both arms. He enlisted at Lincoln and joined the army on 13 July 1901. Served with the 1st Lincolns in India for over eight years

Mobilised on 5 Aug 1914. Served in the 3rd Lincolnshire Regiment. Posted to France, on 10 August 1915. Invalided to England on 28 Dec 1915. Discharged on 6 August 1916. Awarded the Silver War Badge (No: 83724) Died of Chronic Bronchitis, at Hull, on 24 Oct 1917, aged 36.
