BORN HULL 1892. SON OF BETSY & ROBERT HENRY MAY – 92 HAWTHORNE AVENUE & 6 NEWTON TERRACE, REDBOURNE STREET, HULL.

PTE. GEORGE MAY ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED WITH THE 5TH NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS. DIED OF WOUNDS RECEIVED ON 26TH OCTOBER 1917, AGED 25. HE WAS ADMITTED TO THE 3RD CANADIAN HOSPITAL, BUT DIED ON 29TH OCTOBER, HAVING BEEN BADLY GASSED AND SEVERELY WOUNDED IN THE THIGH. HE WAS BURIED WITH MILITARY HONOURS AT BOULONGE. ENLISTING IN MARCH 1916, GEORGE WORKED FOR THE HULL AND NETHERLANDS SHIPPING COMPANY. HE LEFT A WIDOWED MOTHER AND HIS BROTHER ROBERT, WHO WAS A WELL KNOWN DRIVER ON HESSLE ROAD TRAM CARS, AND WAS SERVING IN FRANCE. GEORGE’S DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 19TH NOVEMBER 1917, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
