Private, Herbert Lloyd McDonald enlisted in Canada and served with the 47th Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF). He saw much fighting and was killed in action, at Vimy Ridge, on 25/06/1917, aged 26.
His wife, Mrs Smithson, lived with her mother at 30 Victor Street, Hull. A cheerful disposition. He was very popular in Hull Circles and his death was reported in the Hull Daily Mail, on 19/07/1917, with his photograph. *
