BORN THORNABY, DRIFFIELD, 1890. ONLY SON OF WILLIAM (1841-1895) & BRIDGET McFADDEN (1846-1928). BROTHER TO MARY AND SARAH McFADDEN.

HE MARRIED BERTHA BETNEY (1887-1917), ON 23/10/1911, AT ST CHARLES BORROMEO CHURCH, HULL.

THEY HAD TWO DAUGHTERS, MARGARET (1916-1917), AND MURIEL AND LIVED AT 8, ALPHA TERRACE, BUCKINGHAM STREET, HULL, (ARMY ADDRESS).

HE WAS EMPLOYED AS A COACH PAINTER.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 31/05/1916, AGED 28 YEARS AND 1 MONTH. HE WAS DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 1.5 INCHES TALL, 107 LBS WEIGHT, 34 INCH CHEST, ‘FAIR’ PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT, ROMAN CATHOLIC RELIGION. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 21/12/1916. SERVED WITH THE 11TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, ON 05/01/1917. HE DIED OF WOUNDS ON 16/07/1917, AGED 27, AT NO:42 CASUALTY CLEARING STATION. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 1 YEAR AND 218 DAYS.

HE IS BURIED AT AUBIGNY COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION, FRANCE.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, BERTHA, WHO MOVED TO 123 BEVERLEY ROAD, HULL. THEY INCLUDED, “4 LETTERS, PHOTO, MEDALLION, RELIGIOUS BOOK, LOWER DENTURES, CAP BADGE, PURSE, POUCH AND GREETING CARD.”

THEIR DAUGHTER, MARGARET, DIED OF ENTERITIS, ON 07/08/1917. BERTHA HERSELF DIED ON 15/08/1918, HAVING LOST HER HUSBAND AND CHILD.

HIS MEDALS WERE LEFT TO GEORGE HARRISON, IN GOOLE, THE GUARDIAN OF THEIR SURVIVING DAUGHTER, MURIEL.
HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE ST CHARLES BOROMEO CATHOLIC CHURCH WAR MEMORIAL, JARRATT STREET, HULL.
