McLaren, William

Born Scarborough, 1888. Son of James Shaw McLaren and Hannah Jane McLaren of Bennington, Yorkshire.  A farm foreman (1911 Census). Husband of Mary McLaren, of 10, Church St., Seaton Carew, West Hartlepool (War Pension address)

He enlisted in Hull and served with the 17th Battalion (N.E.R. Pioneers). He died of Gas wounds, on 15/07/1916, aged 28. His army effects were left to his widow, Mary.

Buried on the Somme, France. His grave inscription, reads, THE LORD KNOWETH THEM THAT ARE HIS
