BORN HULL 1895. SON OF HENRY GEORGE MEAD (1861-1939) & CHRISTINE MEAD, OF 10 BEECH GROVE, GARDEN VILLAGE, HULL. SON OF A STONE AND SAND MERCHANT. HE HAD TWO BROTHERS AND TWO SISTERS. HIS ELDER BROTHERS, HENRY & WILLIAM ALSO SERVED IN THE WAR.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 20/04/1915. SERVED AS A GUNNER IN THE ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY. DIED OF WOUNDS, AS A PRISONER OF WAR, ON 14/09/1918, AGED 23.

HIS NAME IS RECORED ON THE HULL GRAMMAR SCHOOL WW1 MEMORIAL & ST JOHNS, CHURCH, NEWLAND, HULL.

HE IS BURIED AT GLAGEON COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION, NORD, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “HE GIVETH HIS BELOVED REST”.
