Mead, Alfred Ernest

BORN HULL 1895. SON OF HENRY GEORGE MEAD (1861-1939) & CHRISTINE MEAD. SON OF A STONE AND SAND MERCHANT. HE HAD TWO BROTHERS AND TWO SISTERS. HIS ELDER BROTHERS, HENRY & WILLIAM ALSO SERVED IN THE WAR.  HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS A GUNNER IN THE ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY. DIED OF WOUNDS, AS A PRISONER OF WAR, ON 14/09/1918, AGED 23.

HIS NAME IS RECORED ON THE HULL GRAMMAR SCHOOL WW1 MEMORIAL.

HE IS BURIED AT GLAGEON COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION, NORD, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “HE GIVETH HIS BELOVED REST”.
