BORN SELBY, LINCONSHIRE, 09/03/1883. SON OF JAMES WILLIAM MELLERSHIP & MARY WATSON. SON OF A BRICK BURNER (1911 CENSUS). HE HAD THREE BROTHERS AND THREE SISTERS. MARRIED AT HULL, IN 1905. HIS WIFE, EDITH BENSON DICKERSON,  LIVED AT 25 KINGS BENCH STREET, HULL, (CWGC ADDRESS) AND 3 LEURA GROVE, TYNE STREET, HULL (PROBATE ADDRESS). SERVED AT SEA IN THE ROYAL NAVAL RESERVE (HULL DISTRICT). SERVED AT GALLIPOL AS SKIPPER OF THE “IRAMADI”. AWARDED THE DISTINGUISHED SERVICE CROSS (DSC) ON 07/03/1916 AND MENTIONED IN DISPATCHES. HE DIED OF TUBERCULOSIS, ON 24/05/1916, AGED 33, AT PLYMOUTH NAVAL HOSPITAL, DEVON. BURIED AT HEDON ROAD CEMETERY, EAST HULL. HE LEFT £206 IN HIS WILL TO HIS WIFE.

HE IS LISTED AS DIED IN HOSPITAL, ON THE TYNE STREET ROLL OF HONOUR (HDM 22/09/1916).
HIS BROTHER, LANCE CORPORAL, RICHARD MELLERSHIP, 6TH LINCOLNSHIRE REGIMENT, DIED AT GALLIPOLI, ON 09/08/1915, AGED 25.
