BORN HULL 1892. SON OF WILLIAM LUDOVIG MEYERHOFF & MARGARET E. (GROVES), OF 11 ALBERT TERRACE, GILLETT STREET, HULL (1901 CENSUS) AND 3 ALPHA TERRACE, RAYWELL STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). SECOND OF FIVE CHILDREN. SON OF A HULL DOCK LABOURER. HIS GRANPAENTS WERE FROM HAMBURG, GERMANY.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL AND WAS A REGULAR SERVING SOLDIER WITH 3RD EYR IN 1911. HE WAS POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 15/01/1915. TRANSFERRED TO THE 2ND BATTALION, EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 23/04/1915, AGED 23. HIS BODY WAS NEVER FOUND AND IS COMMEMORATED ON THE YPRES, MENIN GATE MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.

HIS NAME IS RECORDED AS KILLED ON THE GILLETT STREET ROLL OF HONOUR (Hull Daily Mail 30 August 1916)
