HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 15/11/1915, AGED 22 YEARS AND 8 MONTHS. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 10.5 INCHES TALL, 35.5 INCH CHEST, 137 LBS WEIGHT, DEFECTIVE EYESIGHT. WORE GLASSES. SERVED WITH THE 20TH TYNESIDE SCOTS. CAUGHT TYPHOID FEVER IN THE WEST INDIES, IN 1915. SENT TO HALIFAX HOSPITAL, NOVA SCOTIA, FOR 3 MONTHS. DISCHARGED ON 27/03/1916. AWARDED THE SLIVER BADGE.
DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 02/11/1917, AGED 20. SINGLE MAN. HIS NAME IS LISTED ON HULL’S ST MARKS MEMORIAL. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 25TH MAY 1918.
