Millington, Raymond

BORN HULL 1892. SON OF ROBERT & ALICE MILLINGTON, AT 64, BARMSTON STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). EX RECKITT’S CLERK AND COMMERCIAL TRAVELLER.

HE ENLISTED IN WEST HARTLEPOOL, ON 21/09/1914. HIS ARMY RECORDS DESCRIBE HIMS AS 5 FOOT 8.5 INCHES TALL, 140 LBS WEIGHT, 38 INCH CHEST, GREY EYES, AUBURN HAIR, GOOD TEETH, A BIRTHMARK ON HIS LEFT FOREARM. JOINED THE DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY IN 1914 WAS DISCHARGED DUE TO A WEAK ANKLE. HE REJOINED THE ARMY IN SEPTEMBER, 1915 AND SERVED WITH THE ROYAL ARMY SERVICE CORPS. HE WAS WOUNDED IN A BOMBING AIR RAID, AND DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 01/09/1917, AGED 26.

HE HE IS BURIED AT MENDINGHEM MILITARY CEMETERY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “GREATLY BELOVED MAY HE REST IN PEACE”

HIS NAME IS ALSO RECORDED ON THE RECKITTS WW1 BOYS CLUB ROLL OF HONOUR, HULL.
