BORN HULL 1893. SON OF GEORGE AND HANNAH MILNER, OF 3 GLADY’S GROVE, COURTNEY STREET, HULL..

BEFORE ENLISTING, HE WAS AN APPRENTICE WHEELWRIGHT, WORKING FOR LAVERACK & GODDARDS, HOLDERNESS ROAD. HE RESIDED AT 3 GLADY’S GROVE, COURTNEY STREET, AND 11 WHITBY AVENUE, WHITBY STREET, HULL (ARMY RECORDS ADDRESS). DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 4.5 INCHES TALL, 35 INCH CHEST SIZE, 132 LBS WEIGHT, CHURCH OF ENGLAND RELIGION.

HE ENLISTED IN THE THE HULL PALS, ON 16/11/1914. TRAINED AT BEVERLEY AND RIPON. SERVED WITH THE 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT IN EGYPT AND FRANCE. DIED AT THE BATTLE OF SERRE, ON 13/11/1916, AGED 23. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 1 YEAR AND 364 DAYS. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 4TH APRIL 1917, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
HIS BROTHER. LANCE CORPORAL, WILLIAM MILNER. OF THE 12th EAST YORKSHIRE, LEWIS GUN SECTION, WAS WOUNDED IN THE SAME ACTION, ON 13/11/1916, AND KILLED ON 25/02/1917, AGED 19

ANOTHER BROTHER, ARTHUR, MILNER WAS KILLED IN ACTION FIGHTING FOR CANADA.
