Monkman, Ernest William

Born 1885. Son of William Monkman (1832-1902) and Susannah Ellis (1841-1923), of Skirlaugh and 110, Northgate, Hessle (war Pension address). He had three brothers and seven sisters. Worked as a Farm Labourer, in Skirlaugh (1911 Census) and Hessle.

He enlisted at Beverley. Served as Private, 4/7275, 5/7350, & 242510, all 1/4 Northumberland Fusiliers. Killed in action, on 26/10/1917, aged 32. Commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium. His army effects and pension went to his widowed mother, Susannah. He left £278 in his will too his elder brother, Georeg Monkman , a marker gardener.

His name is listed on the Skirlaugh war memorial.

HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE HESSLE ROLL OF HONOUR, ALL SAINTS PARISH CHURCH.
