BORN GRIMSBY 1900. SON OF ELIZA EMMA WRIGHT & THE LATE JOHN MOORE, OF 4 MENTONE AVENUE, ARUNDEL STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS) AND 1 ALEXANDER TERRACE, WYKE STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). HIS NAME IS LISTED ON THE WILSON LINE CRICKET & ATHLETIC CLUB’S ROLL OF HONOUR.

On the 12/01/1918 the WHORLTON was on passage from Dunkirk to Southampton when she was torpedoed and sunk by the UB-30, in the English Channel, near the Owers Lightvessel, with the loss of all hands. ref. used:A. On 3rd Jan 1918 sank the GARTLAND (ex-Trewidden) 2613 gt/b1892, 5 miles ESE from Owers L/v, English Channel, transporting coal from Tyne to Gibralter, 2 lives lost. 5th Jan1918 GLENARM HEAD 3908 gt/b 1897, 5 miles SW by S from Brighton L/v. 12th Jan 1918 s.s.
