Morley, David

Second Lieutenant, David Morley, 4th East Yorkshire Regiment

Born Beverley, 23/01/1896. Son of David and Grace Morley, of Aragon House, North Bar Without, Beverley, Yorks. His father ran the Beverley Arms Hotel.

Educated at Beverley Grammar School; was studying Law and passed the intermediate exam in November 1914. He enlisted in the 12th Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, the following month. Served in France from September 1915. Went to Salonika in November, in November 1915. Returned to England in July 1916. Obtained a Commission, in the 4th East Yorkshire Regiment, on 16/12/1916. Returned to France, on 23/01/1917. Killed in action, while reconnoitering around Arras, on 16/06/1917, aged 21. A brother Officer, wrote “He was a great favourite of ours owing to his invariably cheerful disposition and his kind, thoughtfulness for his men.”

He is buried at Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension, Nord, France.
