Thomas Morley, of the Trawler ‘Fanny’

BORN HULL 1865. WIFE LOUISE MAUD MORLEY & 5 CHILDREN AT 34 , GOULTON STREET, HULL,. SON OF THOMAS MORLEY & MARY ANN (SOWERSBY). A SEAFARING MAN. HE WORKED MANY YEARS FOR THE WILSON SHIPPING LINE AND WAS WELL KNOWN ON HULL FISH DOCK. HE WAS THE ONLY HULL CREW MEMBER OF THE TRAWLER, “FANNY”, WHICH WAS LOST WITH ALL HANDS, IN FEBRUARY 1917. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 27/02/1917. *

On 25/01/1917 the steam trawler FANNY sailed from Fleetwood for West of Scotland fishing grounds. The vessel was last seen on the fishing grounds on the 1st February 1917. On 07/02/1917 the FANNY was officially posted as missing. Listed as “Missing since 1st February 1917” believed sunk by U-boat (no claim made) off Dhuheartach Light with the loss of all ten crew.
