BORN HULL 1881. SON OF WILLIAM AND EMMA MORRISON (1857-1942), OF 10 BRAEMAR TERRACE, WALCOTT STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). SON OF A GENERAL LABOURER. HE HAD TWO BROTHERS AND A SISTER.
HE MARRIED ON 04/10/1904, AT ST BARNABAS CHURCH, HULL. HIS WIFE, ANNIE SHARDLOW (1883-1963) & 4 CHILDREN LIVED AT 9, BRAEMAR TERRACE, WALCOTT STREET, HULL (ARMY RECORD’S ADDRESS). THEY HAD FOUR CHILDREN, (EMMA, IVY, ELEANOR AND WILLIAM).
HE HAD PREVIOUSLY SERVED WITH THE QUEEN’S BAY LANCERS AND ON DISCHARGE WORKED AS A LABOURER AND COAL PORTER. HE WAS 5 FOOT, 9 INCHES TALL, 36-38.5 INCH CHEST, 151 LBS WEIGHT.
HE ENLISTED IN THE 12TH EYR (HULL PALS), ON 17/11/1914. TRAINED AT BEVERLEY AND RIPON. HIS SON WILLIAM WAS BORN ON 15/06/1915 AND HE WENT AWOL. ON 01/02/1916 HE WAS IN CIVIL CUSTODY AND RETURNED TO DUTY ON 21/03/1916. SENT TO FRANCE, ON 17/06/1916. DIED OF WOUNDS, AFTER THE ATTACK ON SERRE, ON 20/11/1916, AGED 35. HIS WIDOW ANNIE, RE-MARRIED ON 26/03/1921. SHE RECEIVED A WEEKLY WAR PENSION OF 28/9, ON 09/07/1917.

Hull Pals Memorial Post. PRIVATE WILLIAM LEONARD MORRISON 13/366. Born in 1881 William was one of four children to William and Emma Morrison of 10 Braemar Terrace, Walcott Street, Hull. A Coal Porter by trade he lived with his wife Annie and their four children just a few feet away from his parents at No.9; William and Annie had married at St Barnabas Church on 4th December 1904. He enlisted at City Hall on 17th November 1914 originally in the 13th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment before transferring via the 14th to the 12th, 3rd Hull Pals. En route came a charge for desertion which landed him in prison with hard labour, later commuted by the army, as they needed him more on the Somme than they did behind bars. William was listed as missing on 13th November 1916 and confirmed among the dead on the 20th. He is buried in Ontario Cemetery; a 35 year old husband and father of four.
