BORN HULL 1888. SON OF LOUIS MOSS (1859-1941) & RACHEL BLASHKER (1862-1945), AT 4 TYNE STREET, HESSLE ROAD, HULL, 12 DEE STREET, HESSLE ROAD, & LATER 9 PALACE AVENUE, BRIDLINGTON. SON OF A JEWISH WATCHMAKER. HE WORKED AS A CARPENTER. HE HAD PREVIOUS SERVED THREE YEARS IN THE TERRITORIALS.

HE ENLISTED IN THE ROYAL ENGINEERS, AT HOLLOWAY, LONDON, ON 05/01/1915, AGED 26. HIS ARMY RECORDS DESCRIBE HIM AS 5 FOOT, 8.5 INCHES TALL, 38 INCH CHEST, 147 LBS WEIGHT, VERY GOOD PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT, AND A TATTOO MARK ON HIS LEFT FOREARM. HE TRAINED AT CHATHAM BARRACKS, KENT.

HE LEFT FOR FRANCE, ON 18/07/1915. SERVED AS A SAPPER, IN THE 82ND FIELD COMPANY, ROYAL ENGINEERS. WOUNDED IN ACTION, ON 21/08/1915. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 26/08/1915, AGED 27.

UNMARRIED. HE LEFT BROTHERS, SAM AND BARON, AND SISTERS, GOLDIE, PEARL AND ROSIE. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, LOUIS. ALBERT IS BURIED AT MERVILLE COMMUNAL CEMETERY, IN FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “DEARLY BELOVED SON OF LOUIS & RACHEL MOSS”.
HE IS ALSO COMMEMORATED ON THE HULL JEWISH COMMUNITY ROLL OF HONOUR.
