BORN HULL 02/03/1885. SON OF CHARLES MOWFORTH (1854-1929) AND JANE FIRTH (1855-1933), WHO WERE FARMERS IN WEST ELLA. THEY LOST THREE SONS IN THE WAR. HE MARRIED LILIAN FARROW, AT BRANTINGHAM, ON 28/09/1912. WORKED AS A GARDENER. HE ENLISTED AS PRIVATE, 24453, IN THE EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. TRANSFERRED TO THE 50TH MACHINE GUN CORPS AND WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 03/09/1918, AGED 33. HE IS BURIED AT CHAUNY COMMUNAL CEMETERY BRITISH EXTENSION, AISNE, FRANCE.
His older brother, Private Frederick Mowforth, also served in the Machine Gun Corps (Infantry) and his Regimental Number was 65955. Frederick formally served with the Yorkshire Light Infantry (Regimental Number 5730). He was killed in action, on the 10th October 1917, aged 36. He was married with one child
They also had a younger brother, called Frank who served as Private, 39734, 1st East Yorkshire Regiment and was also killed in action on the 10th September 1918, aged 21. Their parents had lost three sons in less than a year and two within one week.
