BORN HULL 04/08/1896. SON OF JAMES MYERS AND AGNES CLARA (PENNEY) MYERS, OF 8 LINNAEUS GROVE, RUGBY STREET, HULL AT THIS NAVAL RECORDS ADDRESS. BEFORE THE WAR HE WORKED FOR THE NORTH EASTERN RAILWAYS, ON HULL’S FISH STAGE. HE WAS KILLED AT SEA, ON A MINSWEEPER, ON 19/02/1917, AGED 21.
Picton Castle, built by Smith Dock Co. Ltd., Middlesbrough in 1911 and operated at the time of her loss by Royal Navy, was a British navy trawler of 245 tons. On February 19th, 1917, Picton Castle was sunk by a mine from the German submarine UC-17 (Ralph Wenninger), 3 m southeast of Dartmouth harbour. 12 persons lost.
