SS Rota, built by Dunlop, Bremner & Co. Ltd., Port Glasgow in 1915 and operated at the time of her loss by Furness, Withy & Co. Ltd., London (requisition), was a British steamer of 2171 tons. On July 22nd, 1917, Rota, on a voyage from Benisaf to Middlesbrough with a cargo of iron ore, was sunk by the German submarine UB-40 (Hans Howaldt), 7 miles ExS from Berry Head. 5 persons were lost. Allen Tony 16/06/2008 ROTA SS was a British Cargo Steamer of 2,171 tons that was defensively armed.
