Needham, William

BORN HULL 1894. SON OF GEORGE HENRY NEEDHAM & EMILY NEEDHAM, OF 5, RAILWAY COTTAGES, CHAPMAN STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). ONE OF EIGHT CHILDREN AND SON OF A RAILWAY GOODS LOADER. WILLIAM WORKED AS A NORTH EASTERN RAILWAYS PORTER.

HE ENLISTED IN THE 17TH NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS, KNOWN AS THE RAILWAY PALS, WHICH WAS FORMED IN HULL. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 26/04/1918, AGED 25. BURIED AT EBBLINGHEM MILITARY CEMETERY, NORD, FRANCE. UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, GEORGE.
HIS NAME IS LISTED ON THE DANSOM LANE MEMORIAL WITH HIS YOUNGER BROTHER, PRIVATE, ALBERT NEEDHAM, 1/4TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, WHO DIED ON 29/04/1915 AND IS BURIED AT HULL’S HEDON ROAD CEMETERY.
