BORN HULL 1888. SON OF ARTHUR (1854-1925) & ADA NEEDLEY (1856-190), AT 161 PERTH STREET, HULL AND 5 STEPNEY LANE, BEVERLEY ROAD, HULL (ARMY ADDRESS). HE HAD SEVEN BROTHERS AND FOUR SISTERS, WHO ALL LIVED AROUND BEVERLEY ROAD, HULL. HE MARRIED FLORENCE JOHNSON, AT ST ANDREWS CHURCH, HULL, ON 24/08/1912 AND LIVED AT 86 , KENT STREET, HULL, WITH THEIR SON, ARTHUR.

A MACHINIST. HE WORKED FOR THE HULL RADIATOR COMPANY. HE WAS ALSO A WELL KNOWN FOOTBALLER AND CRICKETER.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 09/12/1915, AGED 28. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 4.5 INCHES TALL, 34 INCH CHEST.
MOBILIZED ON 26/06/1917. HE ARRIVED IN FRANCE, AND WAS POSTED TO THE YORK AND LANCASTER REGIMENT. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 26/05/1918, AGED 30. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 17/06/1918. *

HE IS BURIED AT BIENVILLERS MILITARY CEMETERY, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “BEYOND RECALL BUT EVER IN THOUGHT”
