BORN HULL 1894. ONLY SON OF HERBERT EDWARD NICHOLSON (1871-1956) & EDITH A BRIGHAM (1871-1940). OF 4 POPLAR GROVE, NORNABELL STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). HE WAS BROTHER TO FIVE SISTERS. EMPLOYED AS A WINDOW CLEANER. HE ENLISTED AT HULL. SERVED AS LANCE SERGEANT, 10684, ‘D’ COMPANY, 6TH EAST YORKSHIRE PIONEERS. HE LEFT ENGLAND ON 14/07/1915. WAS WOUNDED AT GALLIPOLI AND DIED AT ALEXANDRIA HOSPITAL, ON 28/08/1915, AGED 21. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, HERBERT.
HE IS BURIED IN EGYPT, AT ALEXANDRIA (CHATBY) MILITARY AND WAR MEMORIAL CEMETERY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “TO MEMORY EVER DEAR”
