BORN HULL 1896. YOUNGEST SON OF THE LATE AUGUST NORMAN (1852-1901) & MARY JANE JONES (1854-1920), OF 19 VILLA TERRACE, BARNSLEY STREET, HULL. HE HAD THREE ELDER BROTHERS AND FOUR OLDER HALF SIBLINGS FROM HIS MOTHER’S FIRST MARRIAGE. HE WAS A SCHOLAR AT ALL SAINTS HOMES, HULL ROAD, HESSLE (1911 CENSUS)
HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS A DRIVER, IN THE ROYAL ARMY SERVICE CORPS. DIED IN GREECE, 20/09/1918, AGED 22. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS ELDEST BROTHER, THOMAS HENRY NORMAN (1893-1956) AND HALF ISITER, NELLY COX (1874-1934). HE LEFT MISS CATHERINE CAWTHORNE AND AN ILLEGITIMATE CHILD, AT 6 HERBERTS TERRACE, WALLER STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION RECORDS).
HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, ALBERT NORMAN, 23104, 8TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT ALSO DIED SERVING, IN GREECE, ON 14/11/1916. THEY ARE BOTH BURIED IN THE SAME MIKRA MILLITARY CEMETERY, MACEDONIA. HIS HALF BROTHER, JAMES COLLINS, DIED OF LIVER CANCER, ON 05/03/1916, AGED 36.
HIS OLDER BROTHER, AUGUST NORMAN, WAS A PROFESSIONAL SOLDIER SERVING WITH THE 1S EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. HE HAD ENLISTED IN 1909, SERVING IN EGYPT WHERE HE FELL ILL. HE WAS DISCHARGED AS MEDICALLY UNFIT AND DIED IN HULL IN 1915, AGED 29.
