BORN NOTTINGHAM. ENLISTED HULL. SERVED WITHE THE 1/4TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 17/04/1915, WITH COLONEL SHAW’S “FIGHTING FOURTHS”. SURVIVED THE FIERCE BATTLE AT ST JULIAN, IN WHICH THE BATTALION SUFFERED MANY CASUALTIES, INCLUDING COLONEL SHAW IN THE FIRST ATTACK. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION ON 15/09/1916. COMMEMORATED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, TO THE MISSING ON THE SOMME.
HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS SISTER, MARY GERTRUDE, WHICH SUGGESTS THAT HIS PARENTS WERE DECEASED.
HIS MEDALS WERE UNCLAIMED AND THERE ARE WAR PENSION RECORDS.
