Palmer, Alexander

Born Hull 1865. Son of Elizabeth and Walter Palmer, of Hull. Skipper of the Fishing vessel, “Cruiser”. Lost at sea, on 02/05/1915, aged 48. His widow lived in Aberdeen. he is commemorated on the Tower Hill Naval Memorial, London and on Hull’s Hessle Road, Naval Memorial.

“Cruiser”, built by Hall, Russell & Co. Ltd., Aberdeen in 1898 and owned at the time of her loss by T. Devlin Jr., Granton, was a British trawler of 146 tons. On May 2nd, 1915, Cruiser was sunk by gunfire by the German submarine U-41 (Claus Hansen), 50 miles southeast of Aberdeen. 4 persons were lost.
