Parr, George

Born Radcliffe Treos Nottingham, 1865. Married 03/10/1895. Husband of Florence Parr (born 2/5/1875), at 3, Lillian’s Terrace, Woodhouse Street, Hull (1911 Census); 126, Escourt Street, Hull (Army address) and 20, Cornwall Street, Wilmington, Hull (War Pension address. They had five daughters and two sons (three children, Edith May, John and Elsie were young dependents). He was previously a soldier in the 1st East Yorkshire Regiment, joining at Beverley, on 12/3/1885, aged 19 years and 3 months. He served over 17 years with the regiment, in the South Africa war, Gibraltar and West Indies. Worked as a Dockside Labourer and Engine stoker. Described in his army records as 5 foot, 5 inches tall, 34 inch chest, 123 lbs weight, brown eyes, brown hair, dark complexion, “Very Good character”.

Enlisted at Hull, on 12/11/1914. Served with the 1/4th East Yorkshire Regiment. Transferred to the 29th Royal Defence Corps, on 29/04/1916. Discharged on 27/2/1918, with chronic cough aggravated by military service, in South Africa. Awarded the Silver War Badge (No: 28920). Died on 14/10/1918, with chronic Bronchitis, aged 52.
