Pearce, George William

BORN HULL 1887. SON OF ARTHUR AND HARRIET PEARCE. HE WAS MARRIED, AT SCULCOATES, HULL, IN 1906. HIS WIFE ALICE McLOUGHLIN AND THEIR CHILDREN, GEORGE, MINNIE AND CHARLES LIVED AT THIS ADDRESS. THEY ALSO LIVED AT 8 WILFRED’S TERRACE, BEAUMONT STREET (1911 CENSUS). BEFORE THE WAR HE WAS EMPLOYED AS A DOCK LABOURER AND A GRAIN WEIGH MAN FOR THE NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY. HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED IN THE RAILWAY PALS. DIED OF INFLUENZA ON 05/03/1919, AGED 35. HIS DEATH AND PHOTOGRAPH WERE REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL.

HE IS BURIED AT LES BARAQUES MILITARY CEMETERY, SANGATTE. HIS GRAVESTONE IS INSCRIBED WITH THE WORDS “An Ocean apart but only a whisper away”
