BORN HULL 21/05/1893. SON OF JAMES PEPPER (1868-1948) & HARRIET LYONS (1870-1920), OF 25, HOOD STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HE HAD THREE BROTHERS AND TWO SISTERS. WORKED FOR THE EAGLE OIL MILLS.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVING WITH THE 6TH EAST YORKSHIRE BATTALION. LEFT ENGLAND ON 14/07/1915. WHILE ON THE TROOP SHIP TO GALLIPOLI, CARRYING 2,500 SOLDIERS, HE WON THE LIGHTWEIGHT BOXING COMPETITION. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION ON 09/08/1915, AGED 22. HE WAS REPORTED MISSING IN THE DARDENELLES, IN THE ‘HULL & LINCONSHIRE TIMES’, ON 11/09/1915. LATER CONFIRMED AS KILLED IN ACTION ON 09/08/1915, AGED 22. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WENT TO HIS FATHER, JAMES. HIS NAME IS LISTED ON ST CHARLES’ BORREMEO, CHURCH WAR MEMORIAL, JARRATT STREET, HULL.
HIS PHOTOGRAPH WAS PRINTED IN THE HULL TIMES ON 11/09/1915. *
HE LEFT BROTHERS, JAMES, WILLIAM AND SISTER ENA. HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE JAMES PEPPER, 28360, 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 04/11/1917, AGED 21.
