Piercy, Thomas William

BORN HULL 1885.  SON OF MRS ALLISON, OF 3 FRANCIS STREET, HULL. EMPLOYED AS A GENERAL LABOURER LIVING WITH WIFE CATHERINE PIERCY, AT 58 LIME STREET, GRIMSBY (1911 CENSUS). HE ALSO LIVED ELLESMERE PORT, SHROPSHIRE, (SOLDIERS DIED RECORDS). HE ENLISTED AT ELLESMERE. SERVED WITH THE QUEENS OWN CAMERON HIGHLANDERS. HE WAS WOUNDED IN AUGUST 1916 AND SPENT SOME TIME IN A CONVALSCENT HOSPITAL IN FRANCE. RETURNED TO DUTIES, HE KILLED IN ACTION, AT YPRES, ON 03/08/1917, AGED 32. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE MENIN GATE MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 18/09/1916, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
