Pye MM, Robert

BORN HULL 1891. SON OF DAVID PYE (1856-1937) & MARY ANN HOLMES (1858-1934) OF  36, HAVELOCK STREET, HESSLE ROAD. SON OF A COAL MERCHANT. HE HAD EIGHT SISTERS AND ONE BROTHER.

HE MARRIED AT HULL IN 1915 TO BEATRICE ALMA THEODORA HEATON (1893-1961). THEY HAD TWO SONS, ROBERT AND FREDERICK PYE AND LIVED AT 32 MANCHESTER STREET, HESSLE ROAD , HULL, AND 56, TADMAN STREET, HULL.

BEFORE THE WAR HE WORKED IN THE COAL BUSINESS AND FOR COOPER’S ENGINEERS.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS A PRIVATE, IN THE TYNESIDE SCOTTISH. AWARDED THE MILITARY MEDAL (MM), IN 1916, FOR “A PLUCKY ACT OF BOMB THROWING” (HDM, 28/12/1916)

HIS DEATH AND PHOTOGRAPH WERE REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 19TH JUNE 1919. *
