BORN BEVERLEY, 1881. SON OF JAMES & ANN QUAID OF 83 , CLIFTON STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). SERVED IN THE BOER WAR. ENLISTED WALSALL. FORMERLY, PRIVATE, 6524 DUBLIN FUSILIERS. TRANSFERRED TO THE 1ST WEST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 20/10/1916, AGED 37. BURIED AT ST. SEVER CEMETERY, ROUEN, SEINE-MARITIME, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE READS, “HE DIED FOR US”

“Pte. Charles Quaid of Beverley killed. Official intimation has been received from the Record Office, York, that Pte Charles Quaid, West Yorks., of Beverley, died in hospital at Rouen, on October 20th from wounds received in action. Pte Quaid was 37 years of age, and single. he was the youngest brother of Mr Walton Quaid, 98 Keldgate, Beverley. He came of a military family, and was born at the Victoria Barrack, Beverley, where his Father was stationed for 10 years as Barrack Sergeant, and who, previous to coming to Beverley, was 21 years in the old (6th foot. Pte Charles Quaid served 18 years with the colours, and served through the African Campaign and Indian Frontier. He was about 18 months in France. He was Uncle to Charles and James Quaid (sons of Walter Quaid), who have been killed at the Front” ) Beverley Guardian, Saturday 28th October 1916)
