BORN HULL 1897. SON OF WILLIAM THOMAS & RACHEL. REGISTERED AT 10 LOCOMOTIVE AVENUE, CARLTON STREET, HULL. EDUCATED AT WEST DOCK AVENUE SCHOOL. EMPLOYED AS A WOOD SAWYER FOR THE HULL & BARNSLY RAILWAY LINE, NEPTUNE STREET, HULL. HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED WITH THE 3RD COLDSTREAM GUARDS. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 24/03/1916, AGED 19. HE HAD BEEN AT THE FRONT FOR FIFTEEN MONTHS.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER RACHEL. HE LEFT YOUNGER SIBLINGS, ALBERT WHO ENLISTED WITH THE DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY, ON 31/08/1918, AND SISTER, ALICE. HIS NAME WAS LISTED ON THE SUBWAY STREET SHRINE.
HE IS BURIED AT WHITE HOUSE CEMETERY, ST. JEAN-LES-YPRES. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “LEST WE FORGET”.
