Born Hull, 1889. Son of Charles Herbert Rand (1855-1910) and Louisa Catherine Smith (1861-1943). He had four brothers and one sister. Employed as a mill fitter by trade, at this address (1911 Census).
Third Engineer, on the s/s “Linda Fell”, which left Philadelphia for Cuba on 29/09/1915. He he joined the ship at Alexandria, in August 1915, for his first voyage. Linda Fell SS was a British cargo steamer of 3.025grt that sailed from Philadelphia on the 20th September 1915 for Cienfuegos with a cargo of coal and was posted missing. It was presumed lost on 20/09/1915.
Harry was unmarried, aged 26 and lived at 7 Prince’s walk, Craven Street, Hull.
He served his apprenticeship in Hull and was well known in local engineering circles. His death was reported in the Hull Daily Mail, on 11/01/1916. *
His brothers, Herbert William Rands, and Frederick Joseph Rands, also served at sea during the war.
